Three individuals, aged 44, 45, and 48, have been taken into custody on suspicion of aiding Russia’s intelligence agency, as confirmed by the Metropolitan Police. The arrests were made in west and central London on Thursday by detectives from Counter Terrorism Policing. The men are currently under police detention under section 3 of the National Security Act.

Commander Dominic Murphy, who leads Counter Terrorism Policing London, emphasized the rise in recruitment of individuals acting as ‘proxies’ for foreign intelligence services. These recent arrests are part of the continuous efforts to disrupt such illicit activities, he stated.

He warned individuals against being lured into engaging in unlawful actions on behalf of foreign nations within the UK, highlighting the serious legal repercussions that could follow. Those involved in such activities will face thorough investigations and potential prosecution, with severe consequences for those found guilty.
