London’s latest fashion extravaganza has kicked off as Paris Fashion Week wraps up, garnering acclaim for its showcase of African-inspired designs that have been hailed as groundbreaking by a prominent designer. The event, held at The InterContinental London, Greenwich, featured emerging talents presenting their unique creations alongside an Afrobeat music-infused runway.
Renowned luxury designer Veekee James, recognized as a Forbes Under 30 honoree, expressed delight at the growing global recognition of African fashion. She emphasized the importance of showcasing African creativity on an international platform and highlighted the contributions of African talents to the global fashion scene.
The all-day affair, organized by RAFT X, included a vibrant mix of activities such as a runway presentation, a talent competition with a lucrative cash prize, and networking opportunities with businesses like the British-Nigerian food company Puff Puff Ministry.
RAFT X, a newly established annual event celebrating arts and culture, received praise from talent show judge DJ Abass for its role in promoting African culture and providing a platform for emerging artists. The winner of the talent show, spoken-word artist Jessica Edgar, expressed her gratitude and awe at being recognized for her talent among a diverse group of creatives.
Radio presenter Tolu Adepegba, one of the talent show judges, commended the multicultural event for its role in showcasing the richness of African culture and its growing influence on the global stage. Organized by Harvesters UK, the event was lauded by Pastor Dayo Ogunrombi for its cultural significance and support for emerging talents.
Looking ahead, Mr. Ogunrombi expressed aspirations of expanding RAFT X to a larger venue next year and attracting more brands and sponsors to further elevate the event’s impact and reach.
