Broadband has become crucial in our daily lives, supporting activities such as streaming entertainment, remote work, home security through internet-connected devices, and smart home controls for lighting and heating. The demand for fast and reliable internet access is increasing as households adopt more connected devices and rely on online content consumption. However, not all internet service providers (ISPs) offer the same level of performance.

According to SpeedGo, a new broadband speed-testing service, Virgin Media leads the UK in average download speeds at an impressive 256.5Mbps. This speed allows for downloading a full HD movie in just over two minutes, significantly faster than the national average. Following Virgin Media, Vodafone ranks second with average download speeds of 175Mbps, and BT (EE) comes in third place. TalkTalk lags behind with an average speed of under 95Mbps.

The rankings for average download speeds among top UK ISPs are as follows:
– Virgin Media: 256.5Mbps
– Vodafone: 175.1Mbps
– BT (EE): 122.5Mbps
– Sky Broadband: 113.6Mbps
– TalkTalk: 94.7Mbps

In addition to download speeds, upload speeds are crucial for users who frequently send large files or work remotely. Vodafone leads in this category with an average upload speed of 83.6Mbps, surpassing Virgin Media, which holds the second position with 47.2Mbps.

SpeedGo’s analysis confirms that in 2025, Virgin Media provided the fastest broadband internet in the United Kingdom, boasting an average download speed of 256.5Mbps. Vodafone achieved the highest average upload speed at 83.6Mbps.
