Expressing his feelings, Robertson admitted, “I’ve tried to conceal it, but it’s been tough. Considering my age, this might be my final opportunity to participate in the World Cup. Diogo Jota was on my mind constantly. We often discussed the World Cup. He missed out previously due to injury, and I missed out because Scotland didn’t qualify. We always imagined what it would be like to experience the World Cup.”
Struggling with his emotions, Robertson confessed, “I was struggling in my room earlier. I managed to hide it from the team. I believe he’s watching over me somewhere, smiling. He occupied my thoughts all day.”
Robertson is not the only one affected by the loss of Jota. Several of his Liverpool teammates have shown signs of detachment, lack of focus, and decreased motivation this season. Particularly, Mo Salah has seemed to be performing below his usual standards.
The memory of Jota’s tragic death in a car accident in July remains ever-present at Anfield, where the club is dedicated to honoring and remembering him as one of their beloved members.
His place in the Anfield dressing room remains untouched, with his name still displayed above it. The same goes for his spot at the training ground, and his name continues to be listed on match program lineups.
