A horse racing trainer in Dubbo, New South Wales, Australia, has been disqualified after verbally attacking a racing steward during an inspection. Garry Lunn, known for training over 500 winners, including 100 at the Dubbo racecourse, faced consequences for his behavior towards the official.
During a stable audit inspection in September, discrepancies in stable return records were discovered. A month later, racing steward Xavier Dalton returned for another inspection but was met with hostility from Lunn. Lunn reportedly hurled insults at Dalton, questioning his competence and using offensive language.
The situation escalated as Lunn followed Dalton out of the stable, continuing to berate him even after Dalton attempted to leave. Lunn’s actions led to charges of obstructing and hindering Dalton from performing his duties and displaying improper and insulting behavior towards the steward.
Although Lunn denied the charges, he was found guilty and received a three-month disqualification for the first offense and a nine-month disqualification for the second offense. The disqualification period is set to run concurrently from November 14, 2025, to August 14, 2026.
