Residents in a specific region of the UK are receiving £70 supermarket vouchers to assist with living expenses.

The initiative, known as the Household Support Fund, is being implemented by Wakefield Council. Each council administers its own version of the program, offering various forms of support such as energy assistance, supermarket vouchers, and cash grants.

The food vouchers are being distributed by Wakefield Council to low-income households receiving council tax relief. Elderly individuals receiving Council Tax Support have already received a £70 voucher in November, with additional vouchers planned for other eligible households.

Families eligible for Council Tax Support will receive a £50 voucher starting December 15. From December 3 to December 12, all other households receiving Council Tax Support will receive a £70 voucher.

If qualified for a voucher, recipients will automatically receive it within 14 days of the specified dates. The council advises caution against potential scammers.

The council cautioned the public: “Beware of fraudulent messages claiming eligibility for a Household Support Fund payment and requesting bank details. Legitimate vouchers are always distributed by mail, and banking information is not required for their use. Wakefield Council will not solicit bank details through text or email.”
