Three major high street banks, namely Lloyds Bank, Halifax, and Bank of Scotland, are planning to shut down a total of 71 branches in the upcoming year due to the increasing trend of online banking. The closures, initially announced earlier this year by Lloyds Banking Group, include 40 Lloyds branches, 14 Halifax locations, and 17 Bank of Scotland sites. Customers of Lloyds, Halifax, and Bank of Scotland can conduct their everyday banking activities at branches of any of these three banks. Additionally, individuals can explore the possibility of utilizing a “banking hub” located nearby, where a bank operates within a shared public space on the high street.
A spokesperson from Lloyds Banking Group emphasized the shift in banking habits, with over 21 million customers opting for apps to manage their finances. The spokesperson highlighted the increased options provided to customers, combining digital convenience with personalized service. In addition to mobile apps, customers can access services at Lloyds, Halifax, or Bank of Scotland branches, utilize Post Offices, or visit banking hubs for their routine banking needs, including cash deposits at over 30,000 PayPoint locations.
