Authorities are optimistic about a significant development in the disappearance case of 15-year-old Rebecca Reusch as law enforcement follows new leads and conducts a search at a property associated with her grandparents.

Law enforcement officials revealed today that the property is owned by the grandparents of Rebecca’s brother-in-law, who has been a person of interest since her disappearance in 2019. Investigators suspect that Rebecca may have been murdered by her brother-in-law on the morning of February 18, 2019.

Despite continuous efforts, authorities have not located Rebecca’s body since she went missing. The brother-in-law, now 33 years old, was arrested twice in March 2019 but was later released due to insufficient evidence.

In a statement, the public prosecutor’s office indicated that they believe “the now 33-year-old suspect may have killed his then 15-year-old sister-in-law on February 18, 2019, and potentially transported her body and belongings to his grandparents’ property in Tauche.”

Rebecca, a schoolgirl, was reported missing after spending the night at her sister and brother-in-law’s residence in Britz, a suburb of Berlin, Germany. Her sister left the house early the next day, but Rebecca never made it to school.

On the day Rebecca disappeared, her brother-in-law’s vehicle was spotted on the A12 motorway heading towards Frankfurt in central Germany. Presently, investigators are combing through the property in Brandenburg, approximately 54 miles southwest of Berlin.

Law enforcement officers are conducting searches at the residence and a garage area using various methods including drones, ground-penetrating radar, and an excavator, according to reports from RBB24. Additionally, a cadaver dog was deployed at the scene, and interviews with nearby residents have been conducted.

Over 115 police officers are involved in the search operation today, as reported by the German outlet Die Zeit. Further inspections of the site are scheduled to take place in the coming days.

Prosecutors have advised the public against interfering with the investigation following independent inquiries conducted by online investigators.
