Gail’s has officially announced that ten of its bakery outlets will remain open for business on Christmas Day. Moreover, the upscale bakery chain disclosed that complimentary mince pies will be offered to customers visiting these establishments on December 25. All Gail’s bakeries will maintain regular hours on Christmas Eve and Boxing Day.

Through an Instagram post, Gail’s conveyed, “If you find yourself out and about this Christmas Day, several of our bakeries will be operational. A spot for a cup of coffee, a fresh loaf, or a familiar face on a serene morning. And as a token of appreciation, we will be handing out a mince pie to our guests (while supplies last).”

The company’s expansion plans include the opening of 40 new stores across England, with a focus on locations beyond London. Over the past financial year, Gail’s launched 36 cafes, marking its entry into the southwest of England. The upcoming 40 stores are scheduled to be inaugurated by the end of February 2026.

In its recent financial report, Gail’s reported a sales figure of £278 million for the year ending February 2025, reflecting a growth of approximately 20% from the previous year. However, pre-tax losses escalated to £7.8 million, up from £7.4 million in the prior year, attributed to operating expenses and staffing costs related to store expansions.

As of February, Gail’s workforce exceeded 4,000 employees, with about 500 more staff members than the previous year following a recruitment campaign. Besides its retail presence, Gail’s operates a wholesale division that supplies baked goods to various supermarkets, including Waitrose and Ocado.

The price of Gail’s signature sourdough loaf starts at around £4.80. The company emphasized the strong growth and profitability of its retail segment, acknowledging the competitive market landscape and the importance of offering innovative food in appealing local bakeries.

A company spokesperson remarked, “We are delighted with our robust year-over-year growth. This success is driven by the rising demand for high-quality, nutrient-rich food and the support of the communities we serve. We are committed to sustaining this positive momentum by expanding thoughtfully and enhancing access to wholesome food.”
