Love Island champion Amber Gill has expressed relief at stepping away from the limelight following her time on the popular reality TV program. Winning the fifth series alongside ex-partner Greg O’Shea, Amber reminisced about her experience in the villa with fellow contestants Tommy Fury, Molly-Mae Hague, and Maura Higgins.
After parting ways with Greg just five weeks after their victory, Amber humorously dubbed herself the “first solo winner of Love Island.” Reflecting on her journey in a recent podcast episode, she shared the challenges she faced post-show, grappling with the sudden fame and pressure to create content despite lacking prior experience.
The surge in her social media following to over two million followers brought its own set of stresses as she felt compelled to constantly meet high engagement metrics, leading to feelings of disconnection and anxiety. Amber acknowledged the need for a reality check and expressed gratitude for her experiences, recognizing the discomfort and pressure that came with that phase of her life.
Amber emphasized the weight of maintaining an online presence, highlighting the constant scrutiny and expectation to act in a certain way. Since her reality TV stint, she ventured into fashion with a clothing line in collaboration with Misspap and penned a book, “Until I Met You,” centered on a Black love story to address the lack of representation she felt growing up. Her second fiction novel, “One Summer in Miami,” slated for release, delves into themes of queer joy, personal growth, and the value of therapy in her life journey.
