Epping sex offender Hadush Kebatu has been sighted carrying an avocado-themed bag in London. Kebatu, who was sentenced to 12 months in prison recently for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl and a woman in Essex, was mistakenly released by staff at HMP Chelmsford, where he was supposed to be deported.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed that Kebatu was last seen in the Dalston area of Hackney, East London, on Friday evening. Initially spotted with his belongings in a clear plastic bag issued by the prison, he was later observed with a unique white bag adorned with images of avocados.

A police statement stated, “Extensive inquiries are ongoing as the search for Hadush Kebatu continues. He was last spotted in the Dalston area wearing his prison-issued attire but carrying a distinctive white bag with avocado designs. Additional officers have been dispatched for further searches, urging local residents to report any sightings promptly and contact 999 if Kebatu is seen.”

Reports indicated that Kebatu appeared confused and returned to the prison gates multiple times before being directed to a railway station. He traveled from Chelmsford to Stratford, London, and made several journeys across the city with access to funds.

A witness, a delivery driver named Sim, recounted seeing Kebatu in a state of confusion outside the prison, questioning his whereabouts. Despite knowing he was to be deported, Kebatu seemed disoriented as prison staff repeatedly sent him away. The driver emphasized that Kebatu appeared distressed and unsure about his situation and destination.
