Sir AP McCoy has given his assessment on the future of Constitution Hill, a promising jumps horse. The talented gelding, who triumphed in the 2023 Champion Hurdle and remained unbeaten in ten races under rules, faced setbacks at the Cheltenham Festival and subsequent events.

Despite high expectations, Constitution Hill fell early as the favorite at Cheltenham and later experienced another stumble at the Grand National meeting. Trainer Nicky Henderson conducted a thorough evaluation during the summer to prepare Constitution Hill for the Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Newcastle.

Unfortunately, the horse’s misfortune continued as he fell at the second hurdle of the race won by Golden Ace. Henderson has dismissed retirement for Constitution Hill and is contemplating a switch to Flat racing. McCoy shared his thoughts on the situation during an episode of William Hill’s Inside Track.

While some, like McCoy, advocate for persisting with hurdles due to Constitution Hill’s potential, others, such as Barry Geraghty, suggest exploring rehabilitation options for the horse’s jumping skills before making a decision. Geraghty highlighted the possibility of working with Yogi Breisner for innovative training methods. The final choice on Constitution Hill’s future remains a challenging one for the connections.
