The latest data reveals that the most poverty-stricken area in England is situated within Nigel Farage’s Clacton constituency. Specifically, a neighborhood in Jaywick, Clacton-on-Sea, has been identified with the highest deprivation score out of over 33,750 small local areas nationwide. This ranking was determined by the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government, which assessed various factors including income, employment, education, health, crime, housing, and the local environment.

The Indices of Multiple Deprivation (IMD) are considered the most reliable method for pinpointing disadvantaged and impoverished areas in the country. These figures, updated for the first time since 2019, reflect the impact of Covid on local communities. It is important to note that deprivation rates are calculated separately for Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, so the data released today pertains specifically to England.

In Clacton, the area with the lowest deprivation score, Tendring 018A, is located to the west of the town and is characterized by detached bungalows on the Brooklands Estate. Interestingly, this area was also named the most deprived part of the country in the previous rankings from 2019.

Nigel Farage, who secured his position as MP for Clacton in the last General Election, has been at the center of attention recently due to his party’s proposal to overhaul benefits, including scrapping the personal independence payment for individuals with anxiety. The party estimates potential savings of £9 billion annually by 2029 through these changes.

Blackpool emerges as a significant area of concern, with five of the top ten most deprived neighborhoods situated there, making it the most deprived local authority in England. On the other end of the spectrum, St Albans boasts the least deprived parts in England, with areas like Harpenden Town and Harpenden East showcasing the lowest deprivation levels in the country.
