A father shared the tragic story of how his 14-year-old son had dinner with their family before being discovered unconscious on his bedroom floor due to inhaling deodorant fumes. Daniel Maguire, a health-conscious teenager who enjoyed sports and the gym, passed away on September 27 in Hartstown, Dublin, after breathing in deodorant fumes. His father, Dermot, emphasized the dangers of the emerging trend called ‘fast gas,’ stating, “It took one can of deodorant and a thousand lives changed.”

Dermot expressed his desire to raise awareness about the risks involved, hoping to prevent similar tragedies. Recalling the night of Daniel’s passing, he mentioned calling out to Daniel for the front door key, only to find him unconscious shortly after. Despite efforts to revive him, it was too late. Dermot praised the emergency services for their efforts but knew deep down that his son was gone.

Describing Daniel’s evening activities before the incident, Dermot highlighted that he had been active at a football club, visited the gym, shared dinner and conversations with family, and then retired to his room. He clarified that Daniel was not a habitual drug user or troubled teen but may have made a mistake that led to the tragic outcome.

The family expressed their shock at the prevalence of similar incidents involving aerosol inhalation among young people, urging for more public awareness. Dermot created a poignant video warning about the dangers of inhaling aerosols, emphasizing the need for intervention to prevent further tragedies.

In the wake of Daniel’s death, Dermot hopes that his story will serve as a wake-up call to others. He urged for an end to the practice of inhaling deodorants and other fast gases, stressing the importance of open communication with friends and children to prevent such incidents. Medical experts have long cautioned about the risks associated with inhaling aerosols, including cardiac arrest and sudden death, often fueled by social media challenges.

The tragic loss of Daniel has left a lasting impact on his family, prompting a plea for vigilance and prevention to spare others from similar grief. Dermot’s heartfelt message echoes the sentiment that no family should endure the pain they have experienced, emphasizing the urgent need to address the dangers of inhalant abuse.
