Daniel Maguire, a health-conscious teenager who enjoyed sports and the gym, passed away on September 27 in Hartstown, Dublin, after breathing in deodorant fumes. His father, Dermot, emphasized the dangers of the emerging trend called ‘fast gas,’ stating, “It took one can of deodorant and a thousand lives changed.”
Dermot expressed his desire to raise awareness about the risks involved, hoping to prevent similar tragedies. Recalling the night of Daniel’s passing, he mentioned calling out to Daniel for the front door key, only to find him unconscious shortly after. Despite efforts to revive him, it was too late. Dermot praised the emergency services for their efforts but knew deep down that his son was gone.
Describing Daniel’s evening activities before the incident, Dermot highlighted that he had been active at a football club, visited the gym, shared dinner and conversations with family, and then retired to his room. He clarified that Daniel was not a habitual drug user or troubled teen but may have made a mistake that led to the tragic outcome.
