A 29-year-old man has been sentenced to 92 years in an Indiana state correctional facility for leaving his three-month-old baby to die in a container of laundry detergent as a form of retribution against his wife. Eliasard Moneus callously drowned his son, Jacob, in the detergent, then proceeded to attack his wife with a tire iron. The court handed Moneus a 62-year sentence for the murder of Jacob and an additional 30 years for attempting to kill his wife, Edlie.

Upon investigation, authorities discovered Jacob’s lifeless body submerged in detergent in an orange bucket after Moneus sealed the lid shut. The autopsy revealed that the infant died from asphyxiation due to being immersed in the detergent. Deputy Prosecutor Elyse Madigan described the crime as one of the most heinous she had encountered.

Moneus reportedly carried out the atrocious act to teach his wife a lesson about respect for men. Despite Moneus expressing remorse through an interpreter, the judge condemned his actions, stating that killing his own child was an unfathomable crime. The court proceedings revealed that Moneus confessed to assaulting his wife but claimed ignorance about his son’s whereabouts until investigators found Jacob in the kitchen inside the sealed bucket.

The incident came to light when Moneus’ wife, who had sustained severe injuries, sought help at a hospital following the domestic violence incident. Police later apprehended Moneus after conducting a search of the property. Judge Steve Meyer, presiding over the case, emphasized the severity of the crime and the unimaginable cruelty involved in the murder of a defenseless infant.
