Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper recently visited courageous young evacuees from Gaza receiving crucial medical treatment. Among them is Mohammed, an 8-year-old who lost his leg in a bombing incident in Khan Younis. After being treated in Jordan, he has successfully adapted to a prosthetic leg and met with Ms. Cooper at the Specialty Hospital in Amman.

During her visit, Ms. Cooper commended Mohammed for his bravery and encouraged his ambition to become a policeman like his father. Mohammed, now able to walk, run, and pursue his studies online, expressed his determination to follow his dreams.

Additionally, the Foreign Secretary spoke with sisters Sarraa, 17, and Sara, 15, who endured severe injuries from a bombing in 2024. The sisters, now in Jordan for medical care, have undergone surgeries to address their injuries and are on the path to recovery.

Dr. Osama Hamed, a surgeon who has been assisting in Gaza, described the dire healthcare situation in the region due to the destruction of medical facilities and limited resources. Despite the challenges, efforts are being made to rebuild Gaza’s healthcare system with support from the UK and other countries.

Ms. Cooper emphasized the commitment to aid in the restoration of Gaza’s health services and continue providing medical evacuation assistance. Collaboration with international partners is ongoing to enhance healthcare support in the region and ensure the well-being of those in need.
