Sam Vanderpump, a 28-year-old star of the reality show Made In Chelsea, has shared that he has received a diagnosis of irreversible end-stage liver disease after a frightening encounter with sepsis last Christmas. Sam, who is the nephew of Lisa Vanderpump from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, disclosed this news during the latest episode of the show, revealing that without an organ transplant, his life expectancy could be less than five years. This announcement came as Sam also shared the joyous news of expecting his first child with his fiancée, Alice Yaxley.
During a recent episode of the E4 reality show, Sam opened up about his health struggles to his friends Ollie Locke and Tabitha Willett. He expressed that his liver condition is beyond repair and that his chances of survival in the next few years are slim without a transplant. Sam revealed that he is being evaluated for a liver transplant, acknowledging the gravity of his situation.
Both Ollie and Tabitha showed emotional support towards Sam, with Ollie inquiring about his well-being. Sam expressed optimism, stating that he views himself as healthy currently, hoping to remain so until the transplant procedure. He emphasized his determination to come out healthier after the surgery.
Sam mentioned the uncertainty surrounding the timing of the transplant, as there are other individuals ahead of him on the waiting list. Following the episode, the NHS Organ Donation’s Instagram account expressed support for Sam and his family, hoping that the show would inspire others to consider organ donation.
The post read: “In tonight’s episode of Made in Chelsea, cast member Sam Vanderpump shared his need for an organ transplant. Our hearts go out to Sam and his family during this challenging time. We trust that his bravery in sharing his story will serve as an inspiration to many.”
It added: “Unfortunately, numerous individuals are currently awaiting life-saving transplants due to a shortage of organ donors. If you wish to be a donor and potentially save lives after your passing, please register your decision on the NHS Organ Donor Register and ensure your loved ones are aware and supportive of your choice.”
Earlier this year, Sam recounted his battle with sepsis, highlighting how close he came to death as his liver and kidneys failed. In an exclusive interview with OK!, Sam narrated the harrowing experience and also shared insights into his personal life.
He shared: “Around Christmas, I faced a serious health scare where I became extremely ill.” Describing the sudden onset of his illness, he attributed it to a genetic condition that led to an infection escalating into sepsis. Sam acknowledged the critical role his fiancée, Alice, played in saving his life by promptly calling for medical assistance.
Doctors later informed Sam that had he been admitted just 24 hours later, it might have been too late, as his liver and kidneys had already started to fail.
