The Prime Minister has pledged to uphold the interests of future generations while announcing a series of agreements aimed at advancing the “clean energy revolution.”
Keir Starmer is scheduled to engage with global leaders at COP 30 in Belem, Brazil, where he will emphasize the economic potential of clean energy in the 21st century, highlighting its capacity to stimulate job creation and economic expansion.
In a related development, government officials revealed a set of collaborations with various companies, including ScottishPower, JERA Nex bp, EnBW, and Statera Energy.
Prior to his address, the Prime Minister underscored that the UK had witnessed £50 billion in investments in clean energy sectors over the past year, with an anticipated creation of 800,000 jobs by the end of the decade.
He expressed, “Our commitment to driving the clean power revolution is unwavering – ensuring energy security, reducing bills permanently, and fostering growth in communities nationwide.”
The announced agreements encompass more than £100 million allocated to Belfast Harbour to support the establishment of two significant offshore wind farms in the Irish Sea. Additionally, Greater Manchester’s Carrington will host a major battery installation.
Further investments include funding for the Port of East Anglia, with Scottish Power’s backing for the East Anglia TWO windfarm in the North Sea. The Port’s Northern Terminal is set to undergo development to facilitate future offshore wind projects, potentially supporting around 100 jobs.
In a resolute stance on Britain’s energy commitments, Energy Secretary Ed Miliband remarked, “The UK’s message at COP30 is clear: collaborative efforts in combating climate change are the key to fostering employment, energy stability, and economic progress – let’s move forward together.”
Recently, the Prime Minister addressed sixth form students, citing the imperative to attend COP to fulfill the responsibility of safeguarding the planet for future generations while also preserving hundreds of thousands of jobs in the country.
