Anthony Joshua has made a return to the boxing gym almost three weeks after a tragic car accident in Nigeria. The former two-time heavyweight world champion was a passenger in a Lexus SUV that crashed into a stationary truck near Lagos, resulting in the loss of two close friends and teammates, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele. Their funerals took place in London on January 4.

While in Nigeria for a holiday and family visit after defeating YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul, Joshua was involved in the accident. Following hospital treatment, he was discharged on New Year’s Eve. Speculation arose regarding his future in boxing, but recent images shared by Joshua on Snapchat show him back in the gym, engaging in workouts and describing it as “mental strength therapy.” He also showcased various exercises, including lower leg workouts and cycling, along with footage of him in a pool.

Despite reports from Joshua’s uncle suggesting retirement post-accident, Mirror Fighting understands that Joshua has not made a final decision on his boxing career. The driver of the car, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, has been charged over the crash, facing allegations of causing death by dangerous driving.

In a recent interview, Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, emphasized that discussions regarding Joshua’s fighting future are not currently taking place, emphasizing the need for Joshua to have time to recover mentally and physically before making any decisions. Hearn expressed support for Joshua and highlighted the importance of letting Joshua decide his own future in the sport.
