Aldi has slashed prices on a wide range of products this month, covering fresh and frozen foods, pantry staples, household items, and personal care products. Some notable discounts include red lentils now priced at 99p down from £1.39, porridge sachets reduced to 79p from 99p, and organic steel cut oats on sale for £1.99, previously £2.19.
Moreover, beef and pork Bolognese mince are now £4.49 from £4.79, pork and gammon joints are marked down to £3.49 from £3.99, and Specially Selected British cheese is now available for £2.29, down from £2.59. Sweetcorn is now priced at 55p from 59p, and a pack of six large free-range eggs is reduced to £1.75 from £1.79. Shoppers can also enjoy savings of 50p on selected items such as beef flank steak now priced at £6.99 from £7.49, and vegetable pieces and meatballs now selling at £1.49 down from £1.99.
The price cuts in January reflect a substantial investment of over £22 million to ensure customers benefit from lower prices. Julie Ashfield, Chief Commercial Officer at Aldi UK, highlighted the continuous effort to review and adjust prices to offer customers the best value without compromising quality. This initiative follows Aldi’s announcement to open 40 new stores in the UK this year, with a planned investment of £370 million in various locations across the country as part of a long-term strategy to reach 1,500 UK stores. Aldi was recently recognized as the most affordable supermarket in 2025 by Which? magazine, securing the top spot for ten out of 12 months last year, with Lidl leading in July and October. The average monthly price difference between Aldi and Lidl throughout the year was just 77p. In December, Aldi was the cheapest for a list of 68 items, with an average cost of £123.60. Lidl closely followed at £123.70, while Asda and Tesco had higher average costs for the same items.
