Winter Olympics icon Lindsey Vonn, undeterred by a harrowing crash during the Winter Games, continued to support Team USA. Her teammate Breezy Johnson, who won a gold medal, revealed that Vonn cheered her on even while being airlifted following the incident in Cortina d’Ampezzo.

Vonn, aged 41, returned to the Winter Olympics after a hiatus, only to suffer a severe crash during the downhill event. Despite recently disclosing a significant knee injury, Vonn displayed remarkable courage by competing in what may be her final Games, drawing contrasting reactions from critics and admirers.

Johnson, aged 30, received Vonn’s encouragement from the helicopter as she celebrated her triumph on the podium. Winning by a narrow margin, Johnson secured her first Olympic medal, becoming the second American to claim gold in the event after Vonn in 2010.

Vonn’s painful fall evoked a heartfelt response from BBC commentator Chemmy Alcott, while Johnson expressed solidarity and best wishes for Vonn’s recovery. Johnson’s victory marked another milestone in her career, following her success at the 2025 Alpine World Ski Championships.

Defending Vonn’s decision to compete despite her injury, Johnson highlighted the resilience of athletes facing similar challenges. With Vonn’s support from a distance, Johnson’s exceptional performance secured her place at the top of the podium at the Winter Olympics.
