Punters heading to Wetherspoons’ new pub in Spain may find themselves shelling out more compared to their local establishments. Despite offering dishes and drinks at reasonable prices, the Spanish pub’s rates tend to surpass those found at the chain’s regular outlets on the high street.
Company executives attribute the higher prices to the elevated operational costs associated with running pubs in airport locations. They emphasize that the pricing at the newly opened Spanish venue is in line with their existing establishments at airports and railway stations in the UK.
For instance, a substantial breakfast in Spain costs 10.25 euros (ÂŁ8.84), whereas the average price for a similar meal in the UK stands at just ÂŁ5.09.
To gauge the differences, the Mirror conducted a price comparison between the offerings at the Wetherspoons pub in Alicante and those at their Solihull pub in the West Midlands and at Gatwick Airport. It is worth noting that some products vary in size and ingredients, complicating direct comparisons.
Examples of menu items analyzed include Margherita pizza, All day brunch, Classic burger, Chicken, eggs, and beans, Pint of Stella Artois, Asahi beer, Pint of Greene King Abbot Ale, Guinness 0.0, and Coca Cola/Pepsi (398ml).
