A man from Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, identified as Mark Gibbon, was recently released after being accused of attempting to drown his girlfriend, Jasmine Wyld, while on vacation in Polk County, Florida. The incident occurred during a heated argument between the 62-year-old and Wyld, who is also his former daughter-in-law.

Gibbon, a lighting engineer known for his work with various celebrities, including Ed Sheeran, was initially arrested on suspicion of attempted murder but later pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of battery by strangulation. He paid fines to the Florida court and regained possession of his passport.

The situation became complex when Wyld advocated for Gibbon’s release, describing him as a “good man” who cares deeply for his family. Notably, Wyld was previously engaged to Gibbon’s son before their relationship ended, leading to legal troubles for the son in the UK.

The altercation involving Gibbon allegedly occurred in a swimming pool, where he reportedly held Wyld’s head underwater, impeding her breathing. The incident was halted by neighboring vacationers who alerted the authorities, with Wyld’s daughter also intervening.

Following the incident, Gibbon was detained and charged with attempted second-degree murder and battery. Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd emphasized the importance of visitors behaving appropriately while in the area.
