Following a shooting incident near the White House involving two National Guard members, former President Donald Trump expressed strong sentiments on social media.
At the time of the incident in Washington DC, Trump was at his golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida. Although physically distant, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that Trump had been briefed on the situation and that the White House was closely monitoring developments after being placed on lockdown.
In a statement shared on social media, Trump mentioned that the National Guard members were critically injured and had been transported to hospitals. He also noted that the suspect responsible for the shooting had sustained severe injuries and would face severe consequences for their actions.
Trump’s message on Truth Social read, “The individual who shot the two National Guardsmen, resulting in critical injuries and hospitalization in separate medical facilities, is also severely wounded and will face serious repercussions. Blessings to our Great National Guard, Military, and Law Enforcement personnel.”
He further emphasized his support, stating, “These individuals are truly exceptional. As the President of the United States, and on behalf of the entire Presidential Office, we stand with you!”
Shortly after Trump’s statement, West Virginia governor Patrick Morrisey initially reported the deaths of two National Guards. However, he later retracted the statement citing conflicting information on the condition of the Guards. Governor Morrisey expressed condolences and assured ongoing collaboration with federal authorities in the investigation.
During a press conference in Washington DC, Mayor Muriel Bowser and FBI director Kash Patel confirmed that the two injured soldiers were in critical condition at a hospital. Mayor Bowser described the incident as a targeted shooting.
