BBC commentator John Hunt was dissatisfied with the camera work of the host broadcaster, expressing frustration as viewers missed the crucial beginning of Matt Weston’s gold medal-winning mixed team skeleton run. The Team GB athlete, alongside Tabitha Stoecker, secured Britain’s second gold medal of the day by defeating two German teams, leaving spectators who tuned in feeling disappointed.

During Weston’s preparation to start his run, the camera inexplicably shifted away from him, focusing instead on the Team GB official giving the signal. This resulted in viewers missing the commencement of the historic sporting moment as the camera angle moved away from Weston’s position on the ground.

Criticism of the camerawork was widespread, with Hunt among those voicing their discontent. He exclaimed, “Oh, what are they doing, what are they playing at; that’s terrible!” Hunt later apologized for the disruption and attempted to maintain composure while commenting on the remainder of the run, acknowledging the footage issue but highlighting Weston’s progress.

Weston, who secured gold on Friday for Team GB’s first medal at the Games, became the first British athlete to win two gold medals at a Winter Olympics. Stoeker initially trailed the Germans by 0.30 seconds before Weston’s outstanding run of 58.59 seconds secured his second victory at the Games, marking a successful day for Team GB with additional gold medals in other events.

Despite the technical glitch that cut away from the live coverage at a crucial moment, fans celebrated Weston’s achievement. Stoecker, emotional during their joint interview, expressed gratitude and disbelief at their success, emphasizing the teamwork that led to their triumph.

This victory elevated Great Britain to 12th place in the medal standings, with all three medals won being gold within a three-day span. Fans can continue to enjoy the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games until February 22, with over 850 hours of live action available on discovery+ via Prime Video. The £3.99 discovery+ Entertainment subscription grants access to TNT Sports 2 for continuous Olympic coverage throughout the Games.
