A video capturing a dramatic daytime street confrontation outside a cellphone store in Sao Paulo, Brazil, shows an off-duty police officer intervening by shooting one suspected robber and aiding in the apprehension of another individual.
The incident occurred on Avenida Paula Ferreira in the north of Sao Paulo. Luiz Fernando Souza Nunes de Viveiros, the off-duty officer, witnessed two men accosting a delivery driver outside the store. One of the suspects reportedly declared a robbery, prompting the officer to discharge his weapon.
The footage depicts the moment when the officer fired a shot at one of the suspects, identified as 26-year-old Michael Santos Preto, fatally striking him. The other suspect, 40-year-old Joao Renato Macedo dos Reis, attempted to flee on foot but was subdued by nearby civilians after an unsuccessful attempt to fire his own weapon.
Forensic teams cordoned off the area for investigation, as law enforcement officials confirmed the suspects’ resistance to arrest. One suspect died at the scene, while the other was taken into custody.
