Lindsey Vonn has openly discussed the challenging road to recovery following a severe injury at the Winter Olympics. Despite suffering an ACL injury just days prior, Vonn bravely competed in downhill skiing in Italy but experienced a devastating crash that led to her being airlifted to a hospital.
Having undergone multiple surgeries and grappling with compartment syndrome and a fractured ankle, Vonn narrowly avoided amputation, thanks to the efforts of Dr. Tom Hackett. The renowned athlete, aged 41, now faces a daunting physical and mental healing journey in the months ahead.
Expressing her struggle, Vonn shared, “Today marked the beginning of my mental battle, following the physical challenges post-injury. It’s a familiar fight that I’ve encountered many times before. Each injury has shaped me in unique ways, making me stronger, but the mental battle can be relentless.”
Back in the United States after an extended hospital stay, Vonn revealed, “I had a longer hospital stay due to low hemoglobin levels from surgeries. I faced intense pain and required a blood transfusion. Currently wheelchair-bound with a broken ankle, my mobility will be limited for some time. Despite the setbacks, I am determined to focus on rehabilitation step by step.”
