Lloyds Bank customers will no longer be able to deposit checks at Post Office branches as part of a recent change. This adjustment also affects Halifax and Bank of Scotland, which are under the Lloyds Banking Group umbrella. Despite the closure of more bank branches, customers can still withdraw and deposit cash at Post Office locations.
The three banks, serving approximately 28 million customers collectively, have reportedly eliminated the check deposit option last month. Lloyds Banking Group has confirmed the closure of an additional 95 bank branches between May 2022 and March 2027, with closures affecting 53 Lloyds, 31 Halifax, and 11 Bank of Scotland branches.
According to consumer group Which?, Lloyds Banking Group has shut down 1,470 sites over the past ten years. To ensure continued access to cash nationwide, the cash access network Link has announced the establishment of 14 new banking hubs. These shared spaces, operated by various banks on different days, offer services such as cash withdrawals, deposits, and bill payments.
A spokesperson from Lloyds stated that most customers now prefer using the bank’s app to deposit checks by simply taking a photo on their mobile devices. For those still requiring a check deposit service, the bank has introduced a new freepost check service.
The ongoing branch closures will see a total of 49 sites shut down by October, following the announcement of 136 closures about a year ago. Once all scheduled closures are finalized, Lloyds will have 610 branches remaining. The bank emphasizes providing customers with diverse banking options, including digital apps, 24/7 messaging services, community bankers, and access to physical branches.
