The Vancouver Rise have strengthened their squad with new signings in defense. The Northern Super League team welcomed Chantelle Swaby, who previously played for Leicester City in the Women’s Super League, and Kaela Hansen, a former player for NSL side AFC Toronto. Head coach Anja Heiner-Moller praised the addition of both players, highlighting Swaby’s physicality and confidence on the field, as well as Hansen’s eagerness to contribute and fit into the team’s style of play.

Swaby, aged 28, brings a wealth of experience from playing in various leagues, including the National Women’s Soccer League, the Scottish Women’s Premier League, and France’s top division. She emphasized her ability to remain composed and provide leadership during intense game situations. On the other hand, Hansen, 26, expressed her excitement about returning home to play for the Rise and being close to her family once again.

The acquisitions of Swaby and Hansen came after the departure of Mariah Lee, who retired last month to pursue a career in law. Additionally, Vancouver bid farewell to goalkeeper Kirstin Tynan, who was loaned to the Halifax Tides for the remainder of the season. With a playoff spot in sight, the Rise (5-9-1) are looking to secure their position in the postseason, currently trailing Halifax (6-6-3) by five points.

The team is focused on the crucial upcoming matches, aiming to showcase their competitiveness and determination to return to the playoffs. Forward Jessica De Fillippo highlighted the team’s eagerness to prove themselves and please their fans by demonstrating their ability to compete until the end of the season.
