The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) has apprehended a minor in Montreal over terrorism-related suspicions. According to a recent announcement from the RCMP, it is believed that the “young man” was planning an attack on a local school in the city. Allegedly, he utilized artificial intelligence in the potential plotting of the attack and posted menacing messages on the platform Telegram, targeting various groups like Muslims, Haitians, and the 2SLGBTQ+ communities.

Sgt. Érique Gasse, a spokesperson for the RCMP, mentioned that they received tips from the FBI a couple of weeks ago regarding the individual’s intentions. The arrest took place at the minor’s residence on Friday morning as part of an investigation conducted by the Integrated National Security Enforcement Team, which focuses on monitoring and disrupting criminal activities of individuals or groups posing threats to Canada’s national security.

The individual is currently undergoing questioning by investigators while a search is being conducted at his home for electronic devices or any evidence relevant to the investigation. The police operation was aimed at disrupting the suspected activities of the individual and obtaining a peace bond for monitoring and intervention purposes. The RCMP anticipates the individual’s appearance in youth court on Saturday morning, with potential charges to be filed at a later stage.
