Users of the Fire TV Stick should take note of an important deadline set by Amazon. The tech giant has released specific dates outlining the duration of software support and potential end dates for security updates.

Amazon stated, “We commit to providing software security updates for your device for a minimum of four years from the original purchase date. Following this, we will strive to continue offering security updates as long as feasible,” in an online announcement.

So, when is the deadline for guaranteed software patches?

Nearly all current Amazon Fire TV Stick models will receive updates until December 31, 2030. The exception is the Fire TV Stick 4K (1st Generation), which might see its final update on December 31, 2029.

The complete timeline provided by Amazon is as follows:

  • Fire TV Stick 4K Select – supported until December 31, 2030
  • Fire TV Stick 4K Plus – supported until December 31, 2030
  • Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Generation) – supported until December 31, 2030
  • Fire TV Stick 4K (2nd Generation) – supported until December 31, 2030
  • Fire TV Stick Lite – supported until December 31, 2030
  • Fire TV Stick (3rd Generation) – supported until December 31, 2030
  • Fire TV Stick HD (2nd Generation) – supported until December 31, 2030
  • Fire TV Stick HD (1st Generation) – supported until December 31, 2030
  • Fire TV Stick 4K Max (1st Generation) – supported until December 31, 2030
  • Fire TV Stick 4K (1st Generation) – supported until December 31, 2029
  • Fire TV Cube (3rd Generation) – supported until December 31, 2030

Amazon clarifies that these dates do not signify that Fire TV Sticks will become obsolete after the deadline, but rather serve as a guideline for when users may want to consider upgrading.

It is important to note, as Amazon points out, that the update period does not guarantee the longevity of the device. “Please be aware that the update period does not determine the lifespan of your device,” Amazon emphasized in its statement.

To identify the specific model of your Fire TV Stick, navigate to Settings > My Fire TV > About on your device. Here, you will find a list detailing the device name and generation.
