Anthony Joshua made a solemn visit to a funeral home to pay tribute to Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele following his release from the hospital. Joshua sustained minor injuries in a car accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway but tragically lost both his dear friends.
The British boxer has been discharged from the hospital in Lagos and will now continue his recovery at his home in Nigeria. Before doing so, he accompanied his mother to the funeral home where Ghami and Ayodele are laid to rest.
A statement from local government expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and mentioned that both Lagos and Ogun states were mourning the loss of the two young men in the tragic accident involving Anthony Joshua.
Joshua, though grieving, was deemed fit to recuperate at home after being discharged from the hospital. He and his mother visited the funeral home in Lagos to bid farewell to his departed friends as they were being prepared for repatriation later that evening.
Both Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu acknowledged the public support and affection shown during this sad incident. They also appreciated the medical team at Lagoon Hospital Ikoyi for their exceptional care.
The accident occurred when Joshua’s black SUV collided with a stationary truck, resulting in the loss of his friends’ lives. Investigations are ongoing, with authorities searching for the truck driver who had illegally parked on the highway’s shoulder.
Following his hospital discharge, the SUV driver provided a statement to the police. The spokesperson for Ogun State’s Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency highlighted overspeeding and a burst tire as contributing factors to the accident.
