British boxing star Anthony Joshua has surprised many by deciding to relocate from the United Kingdom to Dubai, amidst the ongoing tension in the United Arab Emirates due to the conflict between the US and Iran. At 36 years old, Joshua, a former heavyweight world champion born in Watford with Nigerian roots, has officially announced his move to become a resident of the UAE. This move, detailed in paperwork filed for his £150 million business venture, signifies his departure from his homeland, as reported by the Daily Mail.

Despite the recent attacks on Dubai by Iranian suicide drones, Joshua remains resolute in his decision to change his residency status. The UAE has been a target of missile and drone strikes by Iran over the past two weeks, prompting a significant number of British citizens, over 100,000, to evacuate the region and return to the UK.

The allure of Dubai, with its favorable climate and ample amenities, coupled with the absence of income tax, has attracted many affluent individuals to the city. This tax advantage is pertinent for Joshua, given that he would have been subject to UK tax on his substantial dividend earnings in 2023 and 2024.

Joshua’s company, Sparta Promotions, recorded profits of £20.396 million in 2024, paying £6.65 million in UK taxes that year. His decision to move to Dubai aligns with the recent experiences shared by Rio Ferdinand and Kate Ferdinand, who highlighted the unique challenges and sense of security amidst the US-Iran conflict. Joshua is set to join a roster of celebrities, including former boxer Amir Khan and Hollywood actress Lindsey Lohan, who have chosen Dubai as their new home.
