A British tourist, 56, tragically passed away in the Canary Islands after falling nearly 20 feet due to a hotel railing collapse. Another vacationer, aged 54, also fell and sustained severe injuries during the incident in Costa Teguise, Lanzarote early this morning.

The deceased man was pronounced dead at the scene, while the injured individual was rushed to Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital in critical condition. The event occurred around 1:30 am, prompting the response of emergency services following reports of the fall from a significant height within the hotel premises. The Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC), local police, and Spanish Civil Guard were dispatched to the location.

Local sources revealed that the railing that failed was situated in an elevated section of the hotel complex. Subsequently, an investigation by the Civil Guard has been initiated to ascertain potential negligence in the maintenance or security protocols of the hotel.

A spokesperson from the Foreign Office informed the Mirror: “We are extending assistance to the families of the deceased British man and the injured British man in Spain.” This tragic incident follows a similar occurrence in August, where a 22-year-old British tourist suffered chest and head injuries after falling from the third floor of a hotel in Ibiza. The incident took place at the Marco Polo hotel in San Antonio.
