Canada’s Camryn Rogers and Ethan Katzberg emerged victorious in the women’s and men’s hammer throw events at the recent Diamond League competition held in Chorzow, Poland. Rogers, hailing from Richmond, B.C., impressed spectators at the Silesian Stadium with a remarkable throw of 77.09 meters on her fourth attempt. She currently holds the titles of Olympic, world, and Commonwealth Games champion. American athlete DeAnna Price secured the second spot with a throw of 75.23 meters, followed by Italy’s Sara Fantini in third place with a throw of 71.95 meters.

Continuing the Canadian dominance in the hammer throw, Nanaimo, B.C.’s Ethan Katzberg clinched the men’s event with a top throw of 82.92 meters. Katzberg now boasts the Olympic, world, and Commonwealth Games titles in his name. The second position went to Germany’s Merlin Hummel with a throw of 81.25 meters, while Hungary’s Bence Halász secured the third spot with a throw of 79.44 meters.

In the men’s 100m final, Canada’s Andre De Grasse finished sixth with a time of 9.96 seconds at the Diamond League meet in Silesia, Poland. Jamaica’s Oblique Seville claimed victory with a meeting-record time of 9.83 seconds, followed by the United States’ Kenny Bednarek in second place with a season-best time of 9.87 seconds. Christian Coleman, the former world champion, finished third with a time of 9.93 seconds.

The women’s 100m race saw American Melissa Jefferson-Wooden achieving victory in a season-best time of 10.78 seconds. Julien Alfred from Saint Lucia secured the second position with a season-best time of 10.83 seconds, while American athlete Sha’Carri Richardson, the 2023 world champion and 2024 Olympic silver medallist, finished third with a time of 10.96 seconds.

In the men’s 1,500m event, American Ethan Strand surprised by winning in a season-best time of 3:30.77. Kenyan teenager Phanuel Kipkosgei Koech came in second with a time of 3:31.14, followed by American Cole Hocker in third place with a time of 3:31.16. Norwegian distance-running star Jakob Ingebrigtsen finished fourth. The next Diamond League meeting will take place on August 27 in Zurich, Switzerland, before the Diamond League Final in Brussels. The track and field season will culminate with the World Athletics Ultimate Championship from September 11 to 13 in Budapest. Katzberg has secured automatic qualification for the Ultimate Championship as the reigning Olympic and world champion in the men’s hammer throw, while Rogers will not compete as the women’s hammer throw is not part of the championship program.
