Accompanied by a large delegation, including officials and security personnel, Cooper embarked on a journey through the Middle East alongside the Foreign Secretary during a critical period in the peace process following years of conflict.
Starting in Bahrain for a security summit, she proceeded to Riyadh in Saudi Arabia for further discussions, all while keeping the dire situation in Gaza at the forefront of the agenda.
During her visit to Jordan, Cooper witnessed thousands of metric tonnes of food languishing in a World Food Programme warehouse, highlighting the stark contrast between the abundance of aid and the pressing need in Gaza.
Expressing the urgent need to reopen the Jordanian aid route into Gaza, Cooper emphasized the critical importance of swiftly delivering aid to alleviate the suffering of families in Gaza, including food, shelter kits, medical supplies, and essential provisions.
Cooper pledged to advocate for the establishment of a maternity field hospital in Gaza, aiming to address the healthcare crisis affecting expectant mothers in the region.
Amidst escalating pressure on Israel to ease restrictions and facilitate aid deliveries as outlined in a recent peace agreement, Cooper underscored the immediate steps that could be taken to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, including releasing aid from warehouses and providing essential services to the population.
