A mysterious figure emerges in a puff of smoke, embodying the essence of surprise! The nostalgic theme song of the ’90s animated series Darkwing Duck rings true as Disney+ announces the revival of the beloved show after 35 years.

The new series introduces a fresh storyline: Darkwing Duck finds himself trapped in an unfamiliar reality where his heroic feats are unknown. A rebellious teenager named Duckie, well-versed in Darkwing’s legendary past, persuades the ego-driven vigilante to return to action.

Although the plot is original, it was crafted in collaboration with Tad Stones, the creator of the original series. Familiar characters from the classic franchise are making a comeback, with renowned personalities lending their voices.

Mark Hamill will portray Drake Mallard, alias Darkwing Duck, the fearless guardian of St. Canard known as the “Terror that Flaps in the Night.” The announcement of the reboot on Instagram sparked a mixed response among fans, particularly those loyal to the original voice actor, Jim Cummings.

The lead roles in the Darkwing Duck reboot feature Seth Rogen as the scatterbrained sidekick Launchpad McQuack, Lizzy Caplan as Darkwing’s adopted daughter Gosalyn Mallard, and Lilimar Hernandez as the new character, Duckie.

Originally airing in 1991 on the Disney Channel, the original Darkwing Duck series comprised 91 episodes and garnered Emmy nominations, entertaining audiences until approximately 1997. The iconic crime-fighting duck also made appearances in video games for Nintendo NES and Game Boy.

Point Grey Pictures, Seth Rogen’s production company known for producing Disney+ content like a special episode of The Muppet Show, will be at the helm of the new Darkwing Duck production. In a nod to the show’s essence, the Point Grey team echoed Darkwing Duck’s famous catchphrase, affirming their excitement for the project.
