A 32-year-old daycare worker has been taken into custody and formally accused of causing a three-month-old baby to suffer a broken arm, as per authorities’ statements. The worker, identified as Ashley Karschnick, allegedly reacted in frustration to the infant’s persistent crying by forcefully impacting the baby against a crib at Lily Pad Day Care in Fond du Lac.

Karschnick faces a felony charge of child abuse for recklessly causing harm in relation to the incident. The child was admitted to a children’s hospital with a fractured arm, leading officers to respond to the situation following a criminal complaint received by local news outlet WBAY.

Medical reports from Children’s Wisconsin indicate that the baby sustained a specific type of fracture consistent with physical abuse. Subsequent investigations, including interviews and surveillance footage review, revealed Karschnick’s escalating frustration throughout the day she was working in the daycare’s baby room.

The alleged incident, where the baby’s arm was broken, reportedly occurred around 12:30 p.m., according to Express.com. Video evidence supposedly captures the moment Karschnick lifted and forcefully placed the baby in the crib, causing a visible impact and audible thump.

Approximately 10 minutes later, the footage allegedly shows Karschnick returning to the crib to soothe the baby, but the crying persisted intensely. The child’s arm appeared impaired, yet Karschnick denied the accusations, attributing the crib’s movement to accidental contact. When questioned about the baby’s cries, she mentioned feeling that the baby cried whenever she was touched.

Currently detained, Karschnick posted a bond of $2,500 (£1,916) and requested permission to access public places where children are present during a recent court hearing on October 28. Despite the defense’s plea, the judge maintained the existing bond conditions, as reported by Wbay.
