Starting today, a broader range of individuals, including Blue Badge users, will now qualify for a Disabled Persons Railcard. The eligibility criteria for this railcard has been expanded to encompass both visible and non-visible disabilities.
With a Disabled Persons Railcard, travelers can enjoy a 1/3 discount on rail tickets, leading to an average annual saving of £126. The cost of the railcard is £20 for one year or £54 for three years. Additionally, one person aged 16 and above traveling with the cardholder is also eligible for the discount.
The criteria for obtaining a Disabled Persons Railcard has been extended to include individuals who meet specific conditions. The initial expansion was announced in November 2025, with further enhancements planned for September 2026, including coverage for long-term medical conditions and certain forms of neurodiversity affecting travel abilities.
