The King’s disgraced brother, Andrew, is set to delay his relocation from his Windsor residence to Sandringham until after the Christmas season due to the extensive process involved in vacating his current home. Following public backlash surrounding his association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and allegations of sexual assault, Charles has stripped Andrew of his Prince and Duke of York titles. Despite Andrew’s denial of the accusations, he has agreed to vacate his 30-room estate.
Sandringham, where the royal family typically gathers for Christmas, will now avoid any potential encounters with Andrew during the festive period due to the delay in his move. Following the King’s decisive actions against his brother, known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, reports indicate that Andrew is resigned to the situation.
Accused by Virginia Giuffre of sexual misconduct when she was a teenager, with claims of being trafficked by Epstein, Andrew vehemently refutes the allegations. In a recent interview on Sky News, Giuffre’s brother, Sky Roberts, called for an investigation into Andrew’s conduct and expressed the belief that the King’s removal of Andrew’s titles is insufficient given the circumstances.
The removal of Andrew’s name from the official peerage records signifies that his Duke of York title will no longer be officially recognized. The King is expected to send the necessary documentation to formally revoke Andrew’s entitlement to the prince and HRH style in the coming days.
Having withdrawn from public duties in 2019 following a controversial interview about his relationship with Epstein, Andrew, as a non-working royal, does not fulfill the role of a counsellor of state. Despite being eighth in line to the throne, the remote chance of Andrew ascending to the monarchy faces significant public opposition.
Calls have emerged for legislation to prevent any possibility of Andrew becoming King, although Downing Street has confirmed no immediate plans for legislative changes regarding peerages or the line of succession. The Prime Minister’s spokesperson emphasized the government’s focus on enhancing the lives of working individuals rather than legislative amendments.
Andrew will be relocating to an undisclosed property within the King’s Sandringham estate, with accommodations privately financed by the King, who will also make personal financial arrangements for his brother. Negotiations over surrendering the lease for Andrew’s Royal Lodge residence have been initiated, with the process resembling property transactions, albeit progressing as swiftly as possible.
