EDF is rolling out a promotion where customers can enjoy complimentary electricity on Sundays by reducing their energy usage during peak hours on weekdays. The initiative, known as the Sunday Saver challenge, will run throughout February.

Participants are required to shift their electricity consumption away from the peak hours of 4pm to 7pm on weekdays. In return, they can earn between four to 16 hours of free electricity the following Sunday. EDF customers can take part in four Sunday Saver challenges scheduled for February 15, 22, and March 1, 8.

Customers with smart meters can register for the promotion until February 1. EDF has revealed that over 260,000 households have already benefited from the Sunday Saver challenge, with a total of £5.2 million credited back to customers’ bills.

Notably, more than 100,000 customers received eight hours of free electricity over the Christmas period, totaling 910,536 hours of free electricity distributed by EDF. Natasha Shields from South Yorkshire shared her positive experience, having earned over 680 free hours through the Sunday Saver challenge, helping her family manage rising living costs.

Jon Perks, EDF’s Sales & Marketing Director, emphasized the importance of the initiative during the high winter billing season, providing customers with a practical way to save costs. The program not only helps in reducing bills but also supports a more sustainable electricity grid.

Participants can monitor their progress through the Energy Hub on MyAccount, allowing for personalized insights into household energy consumption. Additionally, EDF is offering a £50 credit to customers signing up for any of its electric vehicle tariffs, which include discounted electricity rates during off-peak hours for both home and car charging.
