Chilling text messages have unveiled the confusion and alarm surrounding the demise of fashion designer Martha Nolan aboard a yacht in New York.
Nolan visited the Montauk Yacht Club in the Hamptons on 5 August to meet with affluent insurance executive Christopher Durnan. They were in talks about financing for her fashion brand. New York Magazine reported that Durnan suggested discussing the need for additional funds.
After leaving the dock on his fishing boat, the duo enjoyed champagne and sunset views. However, concern arose when Nolan ceased communication with her friends. Using the Find My app, they tracked her phone location to the Atlantic Ocean. One friend humorously speculated about her phone dying or worse.
Responding ten minutes later, Nolan assured she was at the yacht club with her phone on, but that was her final message. An hour later, she was discovered unresponsive on a friend’s yacht while witnesses saw Durnan frantically running naked along the dock.
Authorities were alerted around midnight to investigate the events leading to Nolan’s tragic end. Questions have been raised by friends about Durnan’s actions, particularly his unexpected nudity.
Durnan’s attorney, Robert Holdman, claimed Durnan disrobed because his clothes were soaked in Nolan’s vomit. Holdman stated that Nolan collapsed suddenly during a business discussion on the yacht’s deck between 10.30 pm and 11 pm, with Durnan attempting CPR but failing to revive her in time.
Despite Holdman’s assertion that Durnan believed Nolan was having a heart attack and made immediate efforts to seek help, he did not contact emergency services promptly. Holdman emphasized Durnan’s cooperation with the authorities.
Regarding Nolan’s visits to the bathroom, Holdman suggested various possibilities, including drug use, due to her repeated trips. He explained a white powder seen on deck as residue from police activities, asserting Durnan’s distress at witnessing Nolan’s death and his genuine desire to support her success.
Durnan’s past legal troubles, including an incident at a 9/11 memorial concert in 2021, were also highlighted, where he faced accusations of assault and drug possession. Holdman defended Durnan’s actions, claiming his involvement was in defense of another individual.
Nolan’s vibrant social life and accomplishments were detailed, highlighting her active presence on TikTok and her successful fashion ventures in the US. Investigations are ongoing to determine if drugs played a role in her demise, with detectives seeking to identify potential suppliers.
Preliminary findings from a post-mortem indicated no signs of violence, but further tests are necessary to ascertain the definitive cause of death, which could take months. Nolan’s family from Ireland has requested a second autopsy to shed more light on the circumstances surrounding her tragic passing.
