A man who falsely claimed his baby son was kidnapped and then murdered the child has been sentenced to over 30 years in prison. Jake Haro, 32, confessed to the murder in a prior court appearance, following a fabrication with his wife, Rebecca, about the baby’s disappearance in Yucaipa, California, two months earlier.

The couple’s inconsistent statements led to their arrest, with subsequent investigations revealing that Haro had killed the infant. Despite efforts, the baby’s body has not been found. Haro was convicted of murder, making a false police report, and endangering a child, resulting in a lengthy prison term.

Rebecca Haro, 41, has pleaded not guilty and remains in custody on a $1 million bail. Prosecutors in Riverside County requested a sentence of 31 years to life for Haro due to his history of harming children, including a previous case involving their daughter in 2018.

Assistant District Attorney Brandon Smith emphasized the severity of Haro’s actions, stating that he not only took the life of Emmanuel but also harmed another child previously. The tragic incident occurred when Rebecca reported the kidnap of her son from a store in Yucaipa, where she claimed to have been attacked and left unconscious.

Rebecca’s initial account was met with sympathy until inconsistencies arose, prompting police suspicions that ultimately led to the truth being uncovered.
