John Tory, the former mayor of Toronto, has been named as the new chair of the board of directors for the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Expressing his enthusiasm for the role, Tory stated that he looks forward to collaborating with TIFF’s board, leaders, artists, filmmakers, and the wider community to influence the festival’s future direction. His term officially commences on October 1, coinciding with this year’s festival dates from September 10 to 20. Tory succeeds Jeffrey Remedios, who held the position since 2021.
Praising TIFF and its leadership, Remedios expressed his everlasting pride in his contributions to the festival’s evolution. Additionally, TIFF announced the appointment of three new board members: Deborah Flint, David Furnish, and Daniel Tisch Echevarría. Furthermore, Asha Daniere, who has served on the board for nine years, will be stepping down. TIFF extended its sincere gratitude to Daniere for her dedicated service and valuable contributions to the organization.
