Lord Mandelson, the former US ambassador who was dismissed due to his connections to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, has been removed from his honorary position at the Design Museum in London. This decision follows revelations of his ongoing contact with Epstein until 2016. Additionally, Manchester Metropolitan University and an Oxford college have also distanced themselves from Mandelson. The Museum recently removed his profile from its website after inquiries were made about his role.

A spokesperson confirmed that Lord Mandelson no longer holds any formal position at the Design Museum and has ceased to be an Emeritus Trustee. The removal of his honorary title was the museum’s decision. Email exchanges revealed that Mandelson maintained contact with Epstein even after his conviction for soliciting a minor for prostitution. In one email, Epstein congratulated Mandelson on his birthday in 2016, indicating their continued communication.

Furthermore, the emails indicated that Mandelson advised Epstein to steer clear of Prince Andrew, who faced allegations of sexual abuse. Mandelson’s association with Epstein led to his resignation from the Washington mission. Mandelson’s profile on the Design Museum’s website highlighted his tenure as Chairman from 2017 to 2023 and his distinguished political career.

The Design Museum, a registered charity receiving funding from various sources, is currently hosting exhibitions on the Blitz club night and director Wes Anderson’s work. Mandelson, expressing regret for his association with Epstein, was unavailable for immediate comment.
