Google has announced that it will discontinue Chrome support for older versions of Apple’s macOS on MacBook devices. While Chrome will still function on MacBooks and iMacs, users will no longer receive updates or security patches, potentially exposing them to cyber threats, bugs, and issues.
Devices running macOS 12 (Monterey) or earlier will no longer receive Chrome updates. Affected users must upgrade to a newer operating system like macOS Ventura to continue using the browser securely. Some older Mac models, such as iMacs predating 2017 and MacBook Airs bought before 2018, may not be compatible with Ventura, requiring users to purchase new devices for continued Chrome usage.
This change is set to take effect in July of this year. Google’s blog post confirmed that Chrome version 150 is the final release supporting macOS 12 (Monterey), with Chrome version 151, scheduled for July 28, 2026, requiring macOS 13 Ventura or later. Users are advised to transition to supported macOS versions to receive future Chrome updates and security features.
While older versions of Chrome will still operate, no further updates will be provided for macOS 12 (Monterey) users. Google recommends moving to macOS 13 Ventura or a newer supported version to ensure ongoing security updates and access to the latest Chrome functionalities.
