Jake Paul’s promotion company has issued a statement regarding the recent allegations against his scheduled opponent, Gervonta Davis. Davis has been accused of battery, false imprisonment, and kidnapping by his ex-girlfriend. The two fighters are set to face off in an exhibition match in Miami on November 14, despite their weight class differences. The fight will not impact their professional records but will have a declared winner through various means.
Amidst the controversy surrounding Davis, there have been calls for the fight to be called off. Reports suggest that Paul has approached Ryan Garcia as a possible replacement for Davis. However, Most Valuable Promotions, Paul’s promotional company, has stated that no decision has been finalized yet. The company expressed their commitment to investigating the allegations against Davis thoroughly before making any determinations.
In response to the lawsuit, Davis’ trainer, Calvin Ford, dismissed the accusations as baseless. The lawsuit claims that Davis assaulted his ex-partner at her workplace and had previously made threats against her. The ex-partner alleges multiple instances of physical assault and choking by Davis and is seeking damages and a jury trial.
Although Garcia was initially considered as a replacement opponent for Paul, promoter Oscar De La Hoya clarified that the fight would not happen due to contractual obligations between Garcia, DAZN, Golden Boy, and Netflix. Paul may delay his return to the ring until December and had been previously linked to a potential matchup with heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua, although securing a deal on short notice seems unlikely.
