While Legions remain committed to supporting veterans and hosting commemorative events, they are also evolving to appeal to new audiences. The organization has seen a significant increase in membership, surpassing 100,000 new members in 2026, totaling over 300,000 nationwide.
Despite this growth, some Legions have faced closures due to financial challenges. Dennis Mills, president of the Bala Legion in Ontario, shared how his branch overcame adversity by expanding services and welcoming a broader community. Plans are in motion to introduce affordable housing units to ensure the Legion’s sustainability.
Mills emphasized the importance of attracting fresh faces to ensure the continued vitality of community services. He urged Canadians to consider joining the Legion to support its ongoing mission.
