Manchester United’s CEO, Omar Berrada, has raised alarms with the Premier League regarding the excessive midweek evening matches scheduled for the club leading up to the Christmas period. Concerns were voiced as Manchester United prepares to host Brighton and Hove Albion at Old Trafford this Saturday.

Following their upcoming game against Fabian Hurzeler’s squad, Manchester United will not have another weekend home fixture until Boxing Day, when they are set to face Newcastle United. All matches at Old Trafford in the run-up to Christmas are slated for midweek with evening kick-off times, prompting Berrada to reach out to the Premier League to address the issue.

Reports indicate that Berrada has engaged with Premier League officials to express dissatisfaction with the fixture list arrangement. The former Manchester City executive highlighted the financial burden on match-going fans attending evening games.

Discussions between Berrada and Premier League representatives were reportedly productive, with the United CEO emphasizing the significance of match-going fans to English football culture. He also urged the Premier League to finalize broadcasting decisions earlier to allow supporters to plan around match schedules during the festive season.

Fan groups have recently criticized the fixture schedule for this season, particularly the high number of midweek home games. United’s Fans’ Forum conveyed their discontent to the club, leading to discussions about the increased frequency of Monday and Friday night matches as part of the new broadcast agreement.

The club’s attention to supporter concerns was evident in Berrada’s interactions with the Premier League. Manchester United, having not qualified for European competitions this season, faced a demanding schedule last season, including a Europa League final loss to Tottenham.

Under manager Amorim, Manchester United secured consecutive Premier League wins, defeating Liverpool and Sunderland, elevating them to ninth place. Ahead of their match against Brighton, doubts loom over the availability of key players like Harry Maguire and Mason Mount.

Amorim remains focused on securing a third consecutive Premier League victory, acknowledging Brighton’s impressive performances against top teams this season. The manager highlighted the importance of player fitness and hinted at potential lineup changes for the upcoming match.
