Television enthusiasts seeking cost-free viewing options now have a wider array of choices available. Introduced in 2024, Freely initially provided live channel access through a broadband connection on select new TV models. Over the past 18 months, the availability of Freely has expanded to include televisions from manufacturers like Hisense, Toshiba, and Sharp. Until recently, individuals interested in watching live and on-demand content via Freely had to purchase a new TV from a tech retailer.
Now, Manhattan’s technology team has revealed a new Freely-powered set-top box named Aero 4K. This innovative device grants immediate access to over 60 live channels and on-demand content, all accessible free of charge without the need for a costly subscription.
The Aero 4K box boasts additional features such as voice search, personalized viewing suggestions, a comprehensive TV guide, and the capability to pause live broadcasts. Users who have subscriptions to platforms like Disney+ and Netflix can also access these apps through the device.
Priced at £69.99, the Aero 4K has garnered significant popularity. Currys, the first UK retailer to offer the Manhattan Aero 4K, has reported that the device is currently out of stock but will soon be replenished.
Interested customers can register their email addresses on Currys’ website to receive notifications when the Aero 4K becomes available again. Furthermore, it is anticipated that other retailers, including Amazon and John Lewis, will commence selling the device in the near future.
Upon its return to stock, the Aero 4K will compete with similar devices like Virgin’s Stream box and Sky Stream, all of which eliminate the need for aerials or dishes by delivering shows, sports, and movies via the internet.
Transitioning to streaming offers several advantages, including simplified installation processes without requiring professional assistance and more frequent software updates.
The television industry is experiencing a transformative period, with Freely recently surpassing one million users. This number is expected to rise as more individuals abandon traditional viewing methods in favor of streaming services.
